DOLLY

Picture
Dolly is a sweet 12-year-old, long-haired Apple Head Chihuahua who weighs just 5.8 pounds. She’s a little independent at first, so she likes to take her time getting to know new people. While she may not love being picked up right away, she’ll quickly warm up once she trusts you.
Dolly is mostly potty trained and goes outside, but she’ll also use pee pads if she isn’t taken out frequently. She has the most adorable little bark—more of a tiny “arf” that sounds a bit like a duck!
This little lady enjoys car rides and would love short, leisurely walks. She’s recently been diagnosed with an enlarged heart and takes 1.25 mg of Vetmedin every 12 hours, which can easily be hidden in a treat.
Dolly came to us with severe dental disease and has since had a dental procedure, so she’s lost a few teeth. She does well with kibble but has a clear preference for canned or homemade food.
Dolly is looking for a warm, loving home where she can be cherished during her golden years. She’s ready to give all her love to the right person!
Adoption Fee: $200

Jake

Picture
 Small Body, Unbreakable Spirit
At 15 years old, Jake the Chihuahua mix has every reason to have given up — but that’s just not who he is.
Jake was found wandering alone during a rainstorm, with no owner to be found. It was clear he had been surviving on his own for far too long. When he came into rescue, he was carrying the weight of years of neglect: an old broken leg that had healed improperly, a bleeding tumor on his backside, a broken jaw, very few remaining teeth, and toenails curled like corkscrews and he is hard of hearing.
Here’s the good news.
His tumor was removed and thankfully tested benign. The teeth he has left have been cleaned, and he is finally living comfortable and much less painful days.
Jake’s leg had been broken long ago and healed on its own without medical care. Because the bone already fused that way, it cannot be surgically repaired. He uses the leg for balance and gets around remarkably well. Amputation was considered, but at his age it would be far too difficult and unnecessary since he manages just fine the way he is.
His jaw was also broken at some point in his past. Unfortunately, due to degenerative bone loss in the jaw, it cannot be repaired. Even so, Jake eats like a champ and doesn’t let it slow him down one bit.
Now that he feels better, his true personality is shining. He’s spunky, curious, and has a little spark of sass. He loves exploring a fenced backyard and knows how to use a pet door. And while he may only have a few teeth, make no mistake — Jake is in charge. He bonds deeply to his person and prefers not to share his foster mom with other dogs. He’ll chase them off without hesitation, and they listen!
Jake would do best in an all-adult home with a securely fenced yard where he can safely enjoy his golden years. He’s a bit like having a tiny, opinionated baby — he needs patience and love — but he’ll reward you with loyalty, character, and some surprisingly athletic little moves when you least expect it.
Jake is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm tested, and microchipped.
His adoption fee is $150.

layla

Picture
Layla is a 2-year-old, 10-pound Chihuahua and wire-haired terrier mix (we suspect she may have a little Jack Russell in her, though she doesn’t share that breed’s high energy level). Her personality leans much more toward the gentle, devoted nature of a Chihuahua.
This sweet and sensitive girl makes friends quickly and bonds closely with her people. Layla came into rescue very pregnant and lovingly raised seven beautiful puppies. Now that her babies are weaned, it’s finally her turn to be pampered and cherished in a forever home.
Layla is still young and enjoys playtime just as much as cuddle time. She’s happiest when she’s near her person. She will need some continued potty training, so a home where someone is around frequently to help her learn and build confidence would be ideal.
We are looking for:
  • A securely fenced yard
  • A home without small children (she can be easily startled)
  • A family committed to giving her daily walks and gentle guidance
Layla is good with other dogs but has not yet been cat tested.
She is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, and heartworm tested. Her adoption fee is $275.

LEO

Picture
Leo is a sweet 2-month-old puppy with the perfect mix of sass and sweetness. His momma was a Chihuahua mix, and his dad was a Terrier mix, and we expect him to be between 10–15 pounds when fully grown, making him a wonderful small-sized companion.
Like any typical puppy, Leo loves to play, eat, and sleep. He’s curious about the world around him, enjoys cuddle time, and is ready to bond with a forever family who will help him grow into a confident, well-mannered adult dog. He is at the perfect age for training and socialization and will thrive with consistency, patience, and love.
Leo comes neutered, up to date on his vaccinations, and microchipped. We are looking for a home with a securely fenced yard and someone home often enough to provide the time, structure, and consistency a young puppy needs for proper potty training and development. To ensure his safety, he cannot be placed in a home with small children or large breed dogs that could accidentally injure him.
His adoption fee is $350.

To prospective adopters:
It is true rescuers are more particular of who they adopt dogs to. We see all the horrible treatment of animals every day. We literally rescue dogs from the poor or abusive treatment of humans. In my personal opinion, society has evolved to where owning a dog is a right and privilege. Most people consider only what they want and not what is right for the dog. That is why once a dog is in our hands, and consequently in our hearts, we make sure that  anyone who adopts  an animal from us has a good life to offer the dog. It is not an easy task. Everyone wants a dog. We try to screen people first before getting too involved with helping them find a dog, or we would be simply selling dogs. We are also a strictly a volunteer organization. Most of us work at least part-time jobs. Our time to the rescue is valuable and limited. We believe that anyone who is sincerely a wonderful potential adopter will endure the process.
